Story

This song is about a river near my home in Northern Ontario Canada. The lyrics were inspired by the name of the river and the surroundings to it and loosely by a poem written by Emily Pauline Johnson about this river. Laughing Loon Lane is an actual street not far from the river. All these images captured my imagination which led to this song.

Over the last few months I've been working with Bolt Upright Enterprises in Richmond Hill Ontario to produce a number of my songs. This is the latest folk-rock version of Shadow River and these guys really made this pop! Just for information Bernd Queiser is playing slide, drums, bass, piano, Dave Greer played additional guitars and piano and I'm on acoustic guitars and vocals. The mix was lovingly done by Bernd and Dave.

Lyrics

Shadow River

Sat beside, Shadow River

Watching the ripples rolling, floating downstream

And I thought about you and what we’d done, all those years ago.

Met the Jester, on Laughing Loon Lane

He beckoned me to follow

And he spoke to me so gently

“He said “let the river cleanse you and  wash all your cares away”.

Carry me home river flow

Back to the place I was born

Carry me home spirit fly

Home  to the sea river flow.

Instrumental break

Met the Jester, on Laughing Loon Lane

He beckoned me to follow

And he spoke to me so gently

“He said “let the river cleanse you and  wash all your cares away”.

Sat beside, Shadow River

Watching the ripples rolling, floating downstream

Floating downstream (repeat and fade)
