Story

This one's just a plain old celebration of summer and generally a celebration of life just in time for summer!

Another great production from Bolt Upright Enterprises in Richmond Hill, Ontario. I think Bernd and Dave have really done it this time -this thing just has a feel to it. For info Bernd Queiser played drums, bass, keys and background vocals on this track with Dave Greer doing the lead and all electric guitar parts. I'm on acoustic guitar and doing main vocals. Bernd and Dave worked together to do the final mixing.

Lyrics

Free Yourself

Summertime

Slow easy days

Head outside play in the sun.

Blue skies

Fat old lazy clouds

Just relax and float downstream.

‘Cause we’re on our way

Off to better times

Cast away all your cares.

And let your, let your spirit fly

Across the Universe

Open your mind and let it dream.

Soft evening breeze

Sharing mysteries

Of distant, far off lands.

Imagining

See through the eyes of a child

Free yourself to be set free.

‘Cause we’re on our way

Off to better times

Cast away all your cares.

And let your, let your spirit fly

Across the Universe

Open your mind and let it dream.

Instrumental

‘Cause we’re on our way

Off to better times

Cast away all your cares.

And let your, let your spirit fly

Across the Universe

Open your mind and let it dream

Just relax and float downstream

Make your life as free as can be.

Story

In 2008 I lost someone very close to me. In her memory, some of her ashes are scattered over a waterfall in Hawaii. She would have loved that. The lyrics of this song are my attempt at metaphorically explaining what I think happens when we leave this Earth.

This version was done by Bolt Upright Enterprises in Richmond Hill Ontario. I think these fellows have done a great job on this song particularly at the end which really captures the "fly away" feel that I think this song needs. My friend Bernd has really figured me out. Just for information Bernd Queiser is playing drums, bass, percussion, piano, Dave Greer played additional guitars and piano and I'm on acoustic guitars and vocals. The mix was lovingly done by Bernd and Dave.

Lyrics

Waterfall (Fly Away)

Ride the wind
Set your sights for the sun Teach your soul to be free Life is what we make of it Life can be short or long Living free forever
In your mind
Your mind
In your mind

Ride the wind
Loose the bounds of this earth Soaring high o’er the clouds We’re all spirits here
Bound to this earthly place Waiting to fly
Fly away
Away
Fly away
Oh fly away
Oh fly away [repeats and fades]

Story

This song is about a river near my home in Northern Ontario Canada. The lyrics were inspired by the name of the river and the surroundings to it and loosely by a poem written by Emily Pauline Johnson about this river. Laughing Loon Lane is an actual street not far from the river. All these images captured my imagination which led to this song.

Over the last few months I've been working with Bolt Upright Enterprises in Richmond Hill Ontario to produce a number of my songs. This is the latest folk-rock version of Shadow River and these guys really made this pop! Just for information Bernd Queiser is playing slide, drums, bass, piano, Dave Greer played additional guitars and piano and I'm on acoustic guitars and vocals. The mix was lovingly done by Bernd and Dave.

Lyrics

Shadow River

Sat beside, Shadow River

Watching the ripples rolling, floating downstream

And I thought about you and what we’d done, all those years ago.

Met the Jester, on Laughing Loon Lane

He beckoned me to follow

And he spoke to me so gently

“He said “let the river cleanse you and  wash all your cares away”.

Carry me home river flow

Back to the place I was born

Carry me home spirit fly

Home  to the sea river flow.

Instrumental break

Met the Jester, on Laughing Loon Lane

He beckoned me to follow

And he spoke to me so gently

“He said “let the river cleanse you and  wash all your cares away”.

Sat beside, Shadow River

Watching the ripples rolling, floating downstream

Floating downstream (repeat and fade)

Daylight Again

There's enough fussing and fighting in this old world. The lyrics to this song address that and are meant to be a thank you to all the family and friends I've had the pleasure to share time with on this journey that is my life.

    Daylight Again – Dave Matheson
    Written Oct 4, 2015

Written in open D tuning capoed at 2nd fret

    Daylight again

Think I’ll go out and make a friend

    Just like you

Someone to share my point of view

    Just you and I

    Passing the time away until

    Daylight comes again.

    When we were young

Didn’t take the time to dream

    Rushing around

    Wasting our lives

    But that was then

    This is now my friend

    And daylight will come again

    Instrumental over one verse

    Daylight again

Think I’ll go out and make some friends

    Just like you

People who share my point of view

    All of us

    Passing the time away until

    Daylight comes again

    Again (repeat and fade)

This piece is an exercise I've been doing for a number of years written on guitar in open G tuning. In 2017 I had the song professionally produced which led to lovely haunting guitar music.

This is a guitar exercise I've done for years. In 2017 I had it professionally produced. The title, Joe's Lullaby, comes from how my dog Joe Black reacts when he hears this song - he falls asleep! That's the biggest compliment he can give me.
